Condition:

The canvas has been relined and is stable on its stretcher. The painting has not been recently restored, but the image reads well overall beneath an old and yellowed varnish. There is some abrasion along the lower edge. There are some thin but stable cracks here and there. Inspection under UV reveals some retouching in the background around the figures, as well as some very fine cosmetic strokes, for example in the shadows of the lower legs of the central figures. There is one spot of retouching in the lower right, as well as some thin strokes to the distant landscape and sky and the tree at upper left. Offered in a decoratively carved gilt frame.
